WAIT! Before You Wash Your Jeans…

WAIT! Before You Wash Your Jeans…

If you’re like most people, it probably takes you some time to find that special pair of jeans that not only goes well with your personality and style, but also conforms to your body just the way you like.  And again, if you’re like most people, you’ll wear them right up until you look yourself in the mirror and say, “I can’t go out in public like this”.

As I’m writing this, I’m still grieving over the loss of my favorite pair of Banana Republic jeans. I had them for a while, but after a freak squatting accident, well, I’m sure you know what happened next.  So that was the end of my favorite pair of jeans.  They were laid to rest about a week ago, and I still haven’t had a chance to replace them.  If only I’d have treated them better when they were around ☹.

Well after hours of research online, and essentially earning a PhD in Jean Care, I’ve put together some quick tips on how you can treat your jeans right so they’ll last longer.

The Highlights:

1)     Turn your jeans inside out and soak them in cold water for approximately 40 minutes with only a small amount of detergent.

Warning! Beware of bleach residue.  If you just washed a load of whites, it might be too risky to put your jeans in to soak.  Hand washing could be the best way to go at this point.

2)     After you’ve reached the 40-minute mark, rinse them with fresh water to remove any additional soap.

3)     If wringing out your jeans is not your idea of fun, lay your jeans in-between two towels, roll them up together, and let the excess water absorb into the towels.

4)     Once all excess water has been removed, hang dry your jeans overnight.  Though sunlight is recommended, a shower rod with two wire hangers will do the trick.

5)     If they feel too stiff, turn them inside-out (unless they’re still inside-out from before) and place them in the dryer for approximately 15 minutes on low heat.

Now your favorite jeans are clean and comfy, and ready to be worn. Enjoy.
